The Makers Of Foxit Reader Enter eBook Reader Race
Foxit Software, famous for their Adobe Reader alternative Foxit Reader, has entered the eBook Reader race with the release of Foxit eSlick. A competively priced (US$229.99 direct, US$259.99 rrp) alternative to the Kindle and Sony Reader, eSlick uses Foxit’s PDF viewer technology to let users read PDFs on the electronic reading device.
All-in-all the specs for [...]
Does The New York Times Have 10K Subscribers On Amazon’s Kindle?
The Nieman Journalism Lab is reporting (although unconfirmed at this stage) that there are 10,000 Kindle owners subscribed to the paid electronic edition of The New York Times.
One other important note from that internal New York Times memo my colleague Zach got a hold of: The company reports it has “more than 10,000 paid subscribers” to an [...]
U.S. E-book Sales Increase 55.2 Percent So Far in 2008
TeleRead.org reports that while traditional paper book sales have dropped in 2008, sales of E-books have actually increased 55.2 percent in the same period. To be fair, paper book sales still dwarf E-book sales, by a massive margin — but I expect that the increase in E-book sales will continue in 2009 as electronic E-book [...]
A Quick Demo Of Sony Reader and E-Ink Technology
If you’ve been following this blog recently you will have noticed that I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with e-book readers. It persists. In this video we see a demo of the Sony Reader and the E-Ink technology that it uses — which not-so-coincidentally, I’m really impressed with.
Wouldn’t it be nice if your laptop [...]

The Paperless Paper Revolution
The biggest problem with the implementation of the Paperless Office is that we tried to run before we could walk. That is to say, we tried to go paperless, before we had a compelling alternative to paper.

Italian students ditch books for PCs
I wrote yesterday how I think that it is inevitable that electronic readers will ultimately replace paper textbooks in classrooms. Well today there is good news from Italy where a group of more than 60 children - aged between eight and 10 - will take part in an experiment which will see them use only [...]
Electronic Readers Will Replace Paper Textbooks
The days of paper textbooks in School classrooms are numbered. The prospect of being able to carry around all of your schools books on one electronic device — with the data backed up on the web, of course — will be too great for many to resist. How long will it take? Who knows, but 5-10 [...]
Creating A Paperless Law School
Connecticut Law Tribune reports on a recent workshop that looked at ways to develop a new version of law school course books.
Professors and publishing executives met earlier this month in Seattle to discuss how legal casebooks could be made available electronically on a widespread basis, particularly on new instruments such as Amazon’s Kindle and the [...]

iRex Technologies has released a new version of their electronic reading device — the iRex Digital Reader 1000 series. The iRex 1000 series features a unique 10.2 inch electronic paper display and increased memory, as well as a durable design, which was demonstrated when the device was dropped from a height of 1 meter, and survived to tell [...]
Demo of the Plastic Logic electronic reading device
Check out this short demo of the Plastic Logic reader — it looks pretty slick. It’s going to be a very impressive device within a few years time.
I predict that within 5 years the majority of working professionals will be doing all of their reading on electronic devices — fiction books, newspapers, work memos, training [...]
